Welcome to our new website

It was quite a challenge to fit in work on our new PSZ website around ATO deadlines. But we’re proud to say we’ve finally gone live.

Telling our story on our new website helped us to clarify what our business is all about.

We wanted to convey the holistic nature of the service we offer clients – from the obvious tax returns to our broader advisory role for business and individuals as well as wealth creation.

With our PSZ Partners in Casa Finance and Strand Financial Planning under the same roof, we have all bases covered.

If you’ve ever wondered who’s who in the PSZ zoo, our new website will do the introductions.
And to round out the story of who we are, we went to the most important source of all – our clients.

You’ll also find an expanded News and Views section. Here we aim to bring you not only important financial information and tips but also the latest about PSZ people, PSZ in the community and what makes our amazing clients tick.

So please take the time to explore our new website – and come back soon for updates.

Goodbye Bob, but not really!

You may have heard a whisper about an organisational change at PSZ Accounting. But thankfully service for our clients will be unchanged.

Our respected founder and friend Bob Poolman has decided to service his clients as a separate entity, Poolman Taxation Management, with a small support staff.

At the same time, the remaining PSZ Accounting directors, Carlo Scali and Dino Penaranda, together with the PSZ team, will continue under the PSZ Accounting banner.

The new structure is an entirely amicable arrangement and we will still collaborate and refer work to one another when appropriate.

We believe this organisational change will strengthen our service to clients by freeing us up to specialise in what we do best.

Both offices will stay in the same Subi Strand locations, so we remain within waving distance.

We’re grateful to Bob for sharing his vast experience and enthusiasm with us over the years, including his ebullient love of the arts.

But at the risk of making this sound too much like a goodbye, it’s not! It’s more of a new beginning.

All the best and see you at work, Bob!

Michael Cicanese, Element Builders: Client Q&A

Michael Cicanese and his wife Lorraine run a boutique building company with a sustainable soul.

Where did it all start in the building industry for you?
As a young boy I used to go to building sites with my father and play around with his tools. When I finished high school I did a carpentry apprenticeship.

Why sustainable homes?
Sustainable homes are the future. We need to look at ways of saving energy and creating a smaller carbon footprint. At Element Builders, we like to design homes that are solar orientated and use recycled materials with an individual touch.

You recently won a 2017 Master Builders Housing Excellence Award. Can you elaborate?
We designed and built a timber-framed house with architect Sid Thoo. The cladding was treated using the old Japanese method of shou sugi ban (burnt timber). We used recycled timber for built-in furniture. It’s solar orientated with a polished concrete floor for thermal mass as well as off form concrete walls and double glazed windows.

How long have you been a client of PSZ?
Six years. I’ve known Carlo for more than 40 years and it would be hard to find a more honest and genuine person. Carlo was giving us great advice when he wasn’t our accountant so it was just a natural move for us.

What services has PSZ provided for you apart from the obvious tax returns?
Setting up a business structure, business mentoring, general advice, conversion to Xero, Xero training and finance.

Any key pieces of advice PSZ has given you?
Changing over to Xero has made a huge difference both in time and transparency. We are in a growth phase right now and PSZ has been invaluable with business advice, especially our cashflow forecasting.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?
Mountain bike riding. Daydreaming about new home designs and alternative methods of building.

Favourite team?
My family.

Three words that describe you…
Honest. Genuine. Creative.

A quirky fact about you…
I wear socks and thongs at home in the winter.
